King Arthur
Features
From the team that launched (but has now sold) South Brisbane’s popular Merriweather – Mairi Mackinnon, Jarrod Huey and Josh Russell (formerly of Cup Coffee) – King Arthur occupies the last in a row of petite refurbished warehouses.
A wraparound counter dominates the entryway with painted cement tiles and is laden daily with housemade layer cakes, tortes and slices. The kitchen beyond specialises in showcasing regional and organic produce with hearty breakfasts and a modest lunch menu. Expect dishes such as a herbed mushroom hash with eggs and braised cabbage; a decadent three cheese and lamb toastie; and confit fish tacos.
Breads from nearby Sprout Artisan Bakery are stuffed with leg ham and cheddar for patrons on the go, while sit-down specials change regularly based on available ingredients from farmer-direct supplier Food Connect (most of the produce comes from within 180 kilometres of the CBD).
A visit wouldn’t be complete without a locally roasted Coffee Supreme brew, best enjoyed with a view over King Arthur’s realm.
