Optiko
Michael Makras first discovered designer frames while working at Selfridge’s in the UK and wanted to bring a high-end concept to his hometown.
Fast forward a couple of decades and now the founder and chief optometrist behind Optiko personally sources unheard-of and high-end brands from cutting-edge eyewear shows in Milan and Paris.
Cult brands Cutler and Gross, Cartier, Oliver Peoples and Optiko’s own Buffalo Horn frames share the shelves with vintage originals from the ’50s to the ’80s. Ic! Berlin and DITA glasses are also on offer to match with precision-milled lenses from top brands such as Zeiss.
Helping people see has been Makras’s grounding passion and drive for more than 30 years – taking him from inner-city Brisbane to remote villages in the Himalayas.
Optiko is also a specialist eye clinic with trained optometrists who use state-of-the-art analysis and eye-testing equipment for diagnoses. Find more of the boutique’s rare and eclectic glasses framing the eyes of knowledgeable and passionate staffers at Optiko’s first store in the CBD.
