Arthur's Green

When the weather’s good, there’s no place Jimmy and Monica Strong would rather be than Arthur’s Green. The couple created the local hangout in 2014 and it’s steadily built a following of families and passing cyclists.

The Strongs, who also own Artie & Mai, had always wanted to establish a relaxed venue that catered to children. Arthur’s Green does exactly that: high chairs sit on standby, kids run around freely, and there’s a stash of toys available.

The cafe is located in the grounds of the Red Hill Community Sports Club, but provides better food and coffee than you’d expect to find at a bowls club. The simple menu mixes classics such as eggs Benedict and bacon-and-egg rolls with swankier items such as spring-onion hash browns and a pulled-pork toastie.

There’s some crossover with Artie & Mai, and support from the sister cafe’s kitchen means that the hash browns, chutneys and jams are all made from scratch. Muffins and sweet treats are baked daily in-house.

The cafe’s outdoor setting has a garden vibe, with hanging plants, rustic outdoor seating and a wall of passionfruit vine. Jimmy built several of the distressed-wood tables himself, and a white picket fence tops it all off.
