Chester Street Bakery’s signature rainbow cake is about as subtle as a neon sign. But the team makes no apologies. It’s just an indication of how far it’s willing to take dessert. See also: jiggly slabs of Nutella lasagne, parfait glasses of Snickers cheesecake, and towering, fairy floss-topped milkshakes.

It's here that Doughnut Time's doughnuts were developed before owner Damian Griffiths (Limes Hotel, Alfred & Constance, Alfredo's, Kwan Brothers) decided to give them a dedicated home.

Aside from the heart-stopping sweets direct from the on-site pastry kitchen, Chester Street serves an all-day brunch menu until 3pm, with a solid mix of cafe classics such as bacon and egg roll, and some more adventurous options such as fish tacos with pineapple salsa.

The venue is easy to spot thanks to a white picket fence that hems in the artificially turfed front. It’s a fun place to spend a few weekend hours picking over a few items from the brunch menu with a drink, or just going for it with something from the cake cabinet.

By night, it turns into a relaxed drinking spot with a smart little cocktail menu boasting classics such as jugs of Pimms, or the signature Chester Street Punch.
