Green Acre
This vegan-friendly pizza bar from the owner of Windsor’s popular Small Print Pizza is committed to reducing its environmental impact. Local suppliers are favoured to reduce produce mileage, delivery packaging is almost entirely biodegradable, and pizza boxes are lined with a “sacrificial” square of paper so that the whole box can then be recycled.
But most importantly, the menu here champions plant-based pizzas. Owners Phil Gijsbers and Rob McKenzie have made sure that most of the menu at Green Acre can be veganised, with both meat options and meat-free substitutes available. The meaty options include the Prosciutto with pear, mozzarella, gorgonzola, and rocket.
The classics like the Pepperoni and Margherita can be made vegan too, with many more vegan options available that go heavy on the veggies; try the Pumpkin with vegan feta and mozzarella, caramelised pumpkin, sage, and crushed pistachios.
Green Acre’s ethos is reflected in its fit-out, too. The space, which was formerly a cafe, is decked out with mostly recycled and upcycled fixtures, from the lighting to the stereo system. Dining in is encouraged because it’s more environmentally friendly – settle into a booth under the muted glow of art deco hanging lights. There’s a marble bar that’s well-stocked with local wines, rotating taps of craft beer and a selection of Australian rums.
