Hector’s Deli CBD

Phenomenal sandwich shop Hector’s Deli has a fourth store in the city-centre, adding to its stable across Richmond, Fitzroy and South Melbourne. This site feels decidedly different to Hector’s other locations in its delivery – from the fancy white worker’s jackets worn by staff, to the jazz music played in-store. Expect to hear Chet Baker playing, over the Backstreet Boys.

Inside, there’s a timber bar where guests can sit, enjoy a sandwich and watch the chefs at work as they make Hector’s signature tuna melts, salad sandwiches and fried chicken potato buns. There are CBD specials, too, like meatball subs and club sandwiches. Given the nature of the suits’ lunch rush, the team focusses on fresh sandwiches; faster to serve than toasties.

The 65-square-metre store draws inspiration from old-school luncheonettes in places like New York and Chicago, adding North American-influenced option to the stretch of Little Collins that already has plenty of sandwich options on offer including Raya (home to an Ice Spice-approved tuna salad sandwich), Indonesian sandwich shop Warkop and banh mi staple N Lee Bakery Cafe.
