With Brother Burger and the Marvellous Brew coming up to its third anniversary, owner Marcelo Tummino thinks it’s time to expand. “This industry is very competitive,” he says. “With so many other burger places opening up, I just felt like I wanted to keep our place.”
Brother Burger number two will open early next month in the old Cafe Greco at the South Yarra end of Chapel Street. The entrance has been pushed back several metres to create a beer garden in the front. Inside are 200 seats, compared with Fitzroy’s 140, while the walls are dominated by some 800 antique hand-operated mincing machines. The vibe is shabby industrial. Greco’s old booths have been retained to match the American diner feel at Brother Burger Fitzroy.
Apart from these aesthetics, South Yarra will operate much the same as the first space, serving a range of full-blood Wagyu burgers with house-baked buns, house-made sauces and a constant rotation of marvellous craft beers.
