Food-delivery service Deliveroo today announced it’s taking 20 per cent off orders for more than 5000 restaurants across metropolitan Melbourne, which are only able to serve takeaway meals during stage-three lockdown.
Deliveroo has confirmed it’s covering the cost of the discount – the bill won’t be passed onto restaurants. Venues will, however, still pay the usual Deliveroo service fee, which – for Deliveroo and the other big delivery services such as Uber Eats – is reportedly 35 per cent in some cases. For many restaurant owners, these commissions cut into already razor-thin profits.
Venues involved in the deal include Israeli street-food spot Tahina, pasta bar Etto, Hawker Chan, Huxtaburger and Fishbowl.
