Little Collins Street’s pasta paradise Pentolina has just announced it is closing on December 17 due to a dispute with the landlord.
“Needless to say, we’re devastated,” owner Julia Picone said in a statement, after she was unable to successfully negotiate a new lease agreement with her landlord.
“Through all the challenges of the past four years, Pentolina has always been like a phoenix – finding a solution to every problem and arising stronger every time. But we now find ourselves facing a roadblock that simply cannot be overcome – for now, at least.”

SIGN UPSince opening in early 2018, Pentolina has cemented itself as one of the CBD’s most reliable fresh-pasta destinations, serving lesser-seen shapes with good old-fashioned Italian hospitality in a tucked-away laneway location just off Little Collins Street.
But it’s not a definite end of the road for the brand. “We’re looking at alternative options for keeping the Pentolina spirit alive in another location and hope to have some good news to share with you soon,” the statement goes on.
Until then, “We’d love to see all of our regulars before Christmas to celebrate our success. We’re so proud to have made it this far against all the odds.”
The closure announcement comes a day after the nearby Bar Americano shared some similar news. “I survived 11 years in Presgrave [Place], including Covid, but I didn’t survive a new landlord,” owner Matt Bax said on Instagram. “We just received a letter today with zero consultation that we need to be out by November.”
Pentolina is closing on December 17.
