The surf will well and truly be up if plans for Surf n Play Aqua Park, in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburb of Dingley Village, go ahead; the park would become the southern hemisphere’s largest indoor-outdoor waterpark.
Pellicano, the developer behind the year-round waterpark, submitted its initial plans to Kingston City Council in March 2019. These plans included water-jet-powered slides, tunnel rides, a “lazy river” and an aquarium.
In 2020, new additions to the proposal were made that included a beach pool and a state-of-the-art wave machine, which would generate six waves per minute at heights of up to six feet. The plans also include a designated zone for beginners, while more competent surfers would be able to use the main surf area.

SIGN UP"The application for the proposed Surf n Play Aqua Park is yet to be determined by Council," Jonathan Guttmann, General Manager of Planning and Place for Kingston City Council, said in a statement to Broadsheet on December 19. "We are expecting to receive an amendment to the current application and following that it is likely the application will be advertised publicly, providing further opportunity for the community to submit feedback.
"Following that process a decision can be made on the application. At this time, we don’t know when the amendment will be submitted."
