Closures in the indie brewing world continue as Alchemy Brewing, a 16-tap brewery bar in Brunswick East, today announced that it will close at the end of the month via a Facebook post penned by founder Pim Muter.

“It’s with a heavy heart I’m announcing Alchemy Brewing will close at the end of the month. I am incredibly proud of the venue I built but we’ve had a rough ride and it’s time to call it quits,” the post reads.

The team will bid farewell to the business with a party from midday on Saturday June 29 at the brewpub on Lygon Street, Brunswick East. Alchemy opened at the end of December in 2019 and Muter brewed all the beer in a 500-litre set-up tucked out the back.

This year Melbourne has seen the opening of Brewmanity and Pirate Life, both in South Melbourne, but with Alchemy’s announcement and the May closure of Temple Brewing in Brunswick and Deeds Brewing in Glen Iris, Melbourne’s craft brewing industry is still undergoing significant changes.

Alchemy Brewing at 396 Lygon Street, Brunswick East, will close at the end of June.
