When you’re at the tail end of a big, boozy night in Sydney (yes, they can still be had), there’s one vital stop before home: Mr Crackles.
The cult takeaway shop on Oxford Street in Darlinghurst is open until 4.30am for cups of pork crackling; chicken katsu rolls; rosemary and parmesan potato gems; 12-hour lamb-shoulder rolls and much more (see the menu for yourself).
Now, owners Sam Horowitz and Carlos Justo are bringing the five-year-old brand to Melbourne.

SIGN UP“We get emails and Facebook messages every couple of days asking us to open somewhere around the world,” Horowitz says. “Melbourne seemed like the best next spot to do it.”
Unfortunately, he’s not ready to reveal the location, which they just found after 12 months of scouting. All he can tell us is that the concept will be pretty similar: “Maybe 12 seats, same layout – mostly takeaway.”
