To cinephiles, “quarantino” might sound like a portmanteau of Quentin Tarantino’s first and last names.

But these two-litre flagons – dubbed “Vino Quarantino” – are filled with summer-perfect rosé, crisp white or silky cabernet sauvignon that we’d wager is far easier to stomach than most of the director’s gory films.

They’re by boutique Goulburn Valley winery Somerset Crossing, which specialises in hand-picked single-vineyard drops, made on a 26-acre property covered with vines planted in 1969.

The flagons launched in late March last year, just as coronavirus took over the country. But now might be a good time to replenish your wine stocks.

One flagon is equivalent to about 2.5 standard wine bottles – that’s around 13 glasses. At $28, the cab sav is already a bargain bulk buy, but you can also get two for $50. That works out to less than $2 a glass. The rosé or the classic white is $35 for two litres and $65 for four.
