Hampton Wine Co.
Pierre Geoffroy, Jarrod Amos and Glenn Mill met in 2007, while working in Jacques Reymond’s restaurants. Their extensive experience in fine dining is reflected in Hampton Wine Co.’s well-selected wines and inventive, seasonal dishes.
The walls are lined with the bar’s vast selection of wines from all over the world. Customers are encouraged to peruse the shelves, ask questions and pick a bottle. Otherwise, there’s a reasonably priced by-the-glass list, which rotates. The bar has a general license, which means you can take bottles away with a $10 discount off the in-house price.
Feeling hungry? Try imaginative dishes to match your wine of choice. The light and fluffy smoked- salmon profiteroles – one of Amos’ creations – is a popular starter. There are a number of desserts available, too.
The interior was inspired by the trio’s travels around Europe. There’s a large, thick timber table at the front of the bar, and stools seated at a timber bench facing out onto the street. The space has a rustic, minimalist vibe, which feels classic but not outdated.
Upstairs is a function room that holds 14 people and has a wide view of the busy street below. In winter, there’s an intimate dining area downstairs, complete with cosy pillows and a fireplace – perfect for drinking a shiraz or cabernet after a long day.
