Kilcunda General Store

A post office, corner store and cafe all-in-one, Kilcunda General Store is a central pillar of the surrounding community. Locals come for their morning coffee, and visitors staying at the holiday park across the road stop by for breakfast.

Owner Mindy Grumley took over in 2014. Grumley was a founding member of the East Gippsland chapter of Slow Food, so she focuses on supporting local farmers and sustainable producers where possible.

The breakfast menu includes butter-thyme mushrooms with goat’s cheese and poached egg on San Remo Bakehouse sourdough. And waffles with poached fruits, maple cream and a house-made nut crumble. The cafe makes all of its own chutneys and relishes from scratch, and sources meats from a free-range butcher in Inverloch.

At the entrance there are staples such as newspapers, Who Gives A Crap toilet paper, Ecostore body products, local honey, Frank Green water bottles, Hope Farm bread and Est handmade soaps from Melbourne. Clothing, ceramics and homewares are in the various nooks and crannies of the cafe space.
