Late last week, a fire broke out at Pt Leo Estate. As a result, the Mornington Peninsula winery has been forced to close.

“Due to a fire in the building on the evening of Friday May 20, Pt Leo Estate[’s] restaurants, sculpture park and cellar door will be closed until further notice,” a statement on the winery’s website reads.

“Our guests and team are safe and well,” it continues. But, for those with upcoming bookings or weekend travel plans, “[a]ll reservations in all dining spaces from Saturday May 21 onwards are cancelled. The reservations team will be in contact with you as soon as possible.”

While Pt Leo Estate hasn’t revealed any more details about the fire, it’s devastating news for the winery – one of the state’s most magnificent – after the blows the past two years have dealt to local, interstate and international tourism.

The 130-hectare site in Merricks is home to fine diner Laura, as well as a vast restaurant, cellar door and wine terrace, and sculpture park.
