It follows the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton, who was born to a Scottish family in the British West Indies. He worked closely with George Washington, became the US’s first treasury secretary and founded the New York Post and the US Coast Guard.

The story is told via a blend of hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap and R’n’B.

The cast of the Australian production – including Jason Arrow as Alexander Hamilton and Māori actor Matu Ngaropo as George Washington – will travel across the ditch for the New Zealand shows.

“Australia has embraced Hamilton with an enthusiasm we could never have imagined,”
Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller said. “Now it is time for our sensational Australian cast to continue their success in the southern hemisphere when the show premieres in New Zealand.”
