It feels like there’s always beauty news to keep on top of. Recently, we’ve witnessed the launch of award-winning Kiwi skincare company Raaie’s first mineral sunscreen, new scents to spritz on your body (and one to burn in your home), and Aesop’s first foray into incense. When it comes to make-up, hair and skin care, these are the beauty products worth taking notice of in 2023 (to date).

Scalp Facial Kit, Chloe Zara Hair
Having first built her name as an in-demand hair stylist, New Zealander Chloe Zara launched her eponymous haircare company in 2020 with a hair and body perfume oil, followed by a full product range. Her products are premium, beautifully packaged and formulated with many plant-based ingredients that are commonly found in skincare, such as sweet almond oil and aloe vera. The company has just released the Chloe Zara Scalp Facial, which is a pack containing a full-sized Hair & Body Perfume Oil, Silk Hair Balm and Everyday Comb. It’s billed as a self-care session for your scalp that has the same benefits as doing a multi-step skincare routine; for 30 minutes every fortnight or month, massage the balm and oil into your scalp to exfoliate and remove excess debris, and leave the mixture on as a mask for hydration. The aim is to keep your hair follicles clear and cared for to promote hair growth and a glossy mane.

The Cream, Augustinus Bader
Not a new product per se, The Cream from Augustinus Bader has previously only been available in New Zealand through selected salons (such as Spring Spa) or with international shipping fees. Now on the shelves at Mecca, the iconic blue and gold packaging is an investment worth making. Originally conceived by professor and medical doctor Augustinus Bader as a treatment for burns victims, the star ingredient is a patented complex of natural amino acids, high-grade vitamins and synthesised molecules naturally found in the skin, known as TFC8. The price tag is steep, but the rationale is that you really only need this one product (plus SPF) to restore and support the skin barrier function. The brand’s lip balm is also loved by beauty enthusiasts.
