Known for its pop-ups and long-haul parties, the team behind Seasons festival has teamed up with Sneakers & Jeans group to open Spring, an ambitious 450-person venue in the former The Flour Factory and Arara space in the CBD.

“[Opening a permanent spot is] something we’ve always spoken about [doing] down the line, and we sort of just found the right moment and the right opportunity,” Seasons co-founder Jarrad Primrose told Broadsheet. The festival has found the perfect partner in Sneakers & Jeans, which has nine hospitality venues across Perth and has been running venues at Spring’s Queen Street site for more than seven years.

Seasons aims to bring a youthful sensibility and “festival mentality” to the venue, while the Sneakers & Jeans team is providing not just the space and staff but some much needed industry experience. Primrose says the transition to a permanent venue after years of hosting festivals has been a “steep learning curve”, admitting that he spent the first few weeks of meetings thinking their sous-chef was a actually a chef named Sue.

The Duo-designed space is literally bursting with life thanks to a ceiling-scraping, six-metre-tall wisteria tree. The ground floor is bright and airy with a bar area, a DJ booth, and a 120-seat restaurant serving a cuisine-crossing menu by executive chef Charlie Vargas. According to Sneakers & Jeans CEO Andy Freeman, the first floor has “more of a PM vibe, with a 250-person dance floor and neon installations”, as well as two bars.

He tells Broadsheet that Spring caters to a “slightly younger demographic” than most Sneakers & Jeans venues, and the team is adding playful touches like brightly coloured cocktails served in clear teapots.

Spring will open with a three-day party over the January 26 long weekend. “We wouldn’t usually open over a long weekend, but since we’re partnering with Seasons, we’re treating [the opening] like a festival,” Freeman says.

The Spring (16 Queen Street, Perth) opening celebrations run from Friday January 26 to Sunday January 28. Tickets ($10) available now. The restaurant opens for business on Wednesday January 31.
