Patio Bar

Patio Bar is a neighbourhood bar serving up simple yet satisfying share plates, lo-fi wines, craft beer and good vibes in the leafy former home of popular cafe X-Wray.

Its co-owners Max Kordyl (Piggy Food Co), Kim Isaac (Mrs Brown, Madalena's Bar) and Rhela Belton are longtime Freo residents. Much like the venue's predecessor, which closed in 2016, they wanted Patio to be a home away from home for locals.

Patio's drinks list throws a spotlight on small and/or independent producers. Isaac’s experience helming wine-focused small bars is evident, having expertly crafted a menu that features minimal-intervention wines from the Swan Valley’s Chouette Wine and Margaret River’s LS Merchants. Craft beer and cocktails are also available.

Food-wise, the focus is on small snacks. You might expect uncomplicated dishes including meatballs, braised lentils, focaccia with whipped ricotta, and cheese plates with pickles. The team is adamant about catering to dietary requirements, so there’s also vegan and gluten-free options on the menu, and gluten-free beers and non-alc options stacking the drinks list.

Taking advantage of the off-the-Cappuccino-Strip location, Patio also has an outdoor deck set-up with DJs on the weekends. That, along with its light-filled lush interior, make it a perfect spot to lose a few hours of your afternoon or night.
