Duende has been producing its own suave mix of Spanish food and drinks since 2003. Big-flavoured tapas are teamed with a drinks menu covering Spanish sherries, wines, beers and digestives, plus a broad selection from Australia, New Zealand and other European regions.

The vibe is lively but relaxed, with plenty of tables inside and out, and a large central bar with stools. Walk-ins are welcome at the bar.

On the weekend, groups should book ahead to guarantee a table. Dishes include prawn and chorizo paella balls, and garlic prawns with romesco and jamon dust. House cocktails don’t buck the theme; there’s an amontillado sherry Martini and a fino sherry Mojito.

Duendé isn’t just a night-time haunt, though. Get your Spanish fix at any hour – it’s open for breakfast and cafe con leche every day. Doughnut balls are a signature treat.

At night they come with chocolate sauce and condensed-milk ice cream, and for breakfast you can have them with custard, strawberry salsa, berry coulis and peanut-butter ice cream.

The breakfast menu includes plenty of hearty options, including a pulled-pork brioche bun with sides. Pair it with a house-blend coffee, organic tea or a cheeky mocktail, such as the Choc-Chilli Martini.
