There are precious few reliable places for a late-night feed, but that’s been The Moon’s specialty since 1991. In 2014 it got a fresh lick of paint, but regular Moon landers need not worry – the menu’s generous portions and simple pleasures remain intact, and you can still get them until 1am, or 2.30am on weekends.

Groups kick-starting a night out might pass around haloumi, roast beetroot or crispy calamari. The tried-and-true favourites are nachos, pizzas, burgers and pastas.

Dessert pizzas are the highlights. Unashamedly excessive, try the apple, brown sugar, cinnamon, walnut and mascarpone. Bread-and-butter pudding, sticky date pudding or a sundae will suit traditionalists.

Many start their night at The Moon. Some end it there, but others spend it there thanks to the drinks list. Cocktails are wild. Case in point: the Key Lime Pie, which packs spiced rum, lime, vanilla liqueur, condensed milk and shortbread into a glass.

The beer list is focussed on hoppy ales, and the wine list is compact and contemporary. Non-drinkers aren’t left hanging – there’s a dedicated milk bar for shakes.
