When Joel and Dani Rees met, Mr Whippy was the only truck free to roam Perth’s suburban streets. With a desire to see the city catch up to its east-coast counterparts, and a connection to Latin America, the newlyweds persuaded Fremantle council to trial the food-truck style of trading. Comida do Sul (“Southern Food”) was born and the rest is history.

The couple’s exotic, hand-painted truck serves food straight from the streets of Brazil. The fare is honest and authentic, introducing you to dishes such as prato feito – grilled beef, fried yam and the obligatory black beans and rice. Otherwise there’s coxinha, a crispy golden snack of mashed potato and spiced shredded chicken.

To drink there’s fresh coconuts, and Guarana, a berry-flavoured soft drink from Brazil. With two trucks now on the road, Comida do Sol is sure to be pulling up on a verge near you.
