Aesop in Balmain
Features
With its understated ‘cool’ factor and cult loyal following, Aesop joins a contingent of other coveted brands to set up shop on Balmain’s Darling Street.
Founded in Melbourne in 1987, Aesop is synonymous with minimalist and intelligent design, and has over the years become known for its cutting-edge store interiors; a result of the brand’s decision to work with some of the world’s leading architects and creative minds. The Balmain space was designed in collaboration with rising local, Australian furniture designer (and now architect), Henry Wilson. The space is as familiar and utilitarian as the backyard shed, with a contrast that is the sophistication of the Aesop product and brand.
The store features a number of ‘off-the-shelf’ industrial components which have been artfully re-imagined for retail. The filling cabinet, which Wilson has customised and re-purposed into a freestanding point-of-sale unit, is one such example. The muted colour palette of the space, which is consistent with other Aesop stores around the world, serves to emphasise the natural light that fills the space.
The Balmain store will boast the full range of Aesop products across skin, hair and body care categories, with highly informed and dedicated consultants on-hand to offer expert, tailored advice.
