Bondi Hardware
What was for years a hardware store at the beach end of the street has been converted into a bar and restaurant, aptly named Bondi Hardware.
The décor is inspired by its namesake, with exposed-brick walls, wooden panelling and displays of old tools. The menus are written on graph paper with hardware imagery and mounted on wooden boards to carry the theme even further.
The World Class Venue is open all day, offering lunch, dinner and drinks until around midnight most nights. There's something for any time, including salads, pizzas, sliders and dishes conducive to sharing. New dishes like the Alaskan crab salad with prawn, black rice, coconut and pomegranate, jerk chicken with red quinoa, lentils and cauliflower and Hardware Prawns with chorizo, chilli, wine and garlic served with charred sourdough are our top picks.
To drink, there’s a selection of local beers and ciders including Vale Ale and Batlow Cider on tap, local and international wines, cocktails and Elderflower Liqueur Ice Pops, which are served with soda water and wine stir them into.
Rows of long benches and high tables line the interior, plus window seats and a couple of tables outside provide the perfect spot to watch the people of Bondi pass by. As the weather warms up, head out back to the courtyard, where umbrellas provide shade, and lights twinkle in the evening.
