Finding a tradie is easy. Getting them to show up? Not so much.
Urban Company is making it easier for both parties. The six-year-old app and associated website let users book home services on demand, such as lawn mowing, gardening and cleaning. The platform is available in 22 cities across India, the UAE and Singapore. Sydney is the first Australian city to be added, and comedian Celeste Barber is a fan.
At launch Urban Company focused on home cleaning services, but now it’s added small handyman jobs to its repertoire. As in the past, everything is billed per task, not per hour. TV mounting is a flat $89, for example. Bed assembly is $75, fixing a leaking tap is $89 and painting starts at $89.
We think you might like Access. For $12 a month, join our membership program to stay in the know.
SIGN UPHere’s the real kicker, though. When you book these tasks, you get direct access to each contractor’s calendar through the Urban Company app. There’s no texting back and forth to find a mutually beneficial date – you just pick what works for you and confirm it on the spot.
As Uber screens its drivers, Urban Company background checks all its contractors and makes sure they show up with all the tools they need to do the job properly. To stay on the platform, each contractor must maintain a rating of at least 4.7 out of five within the app.
