Corridor
The unusual thing about Corridor is that despite a certain share-house aesthetic (think reclaimed couches) it manages to play host to a huge variety of clientele, tucked away in corners sipping beers, wines and cocktails.
Only a unique bar can attract such a mix of drinkers. At first glance it appears tiny from the King Street frontage, but head through to the rickety staircase that leads you up – past an array of empty picture frames – to a cosy and sunny back deck, or continue the ascent to another share-house style room and you’ll see there’s plenty of space. Share plates and clever beer food (crisp polenta bites for example) make it too easy to while away an afternoon here.
The "bar-chefs" know their stuff and happily talk you through the finer points of everything from ciders to the right cocktail for a muggy afternoon. And they’re pretty accommodating to any cocktail request, making the most of house-infused spirits and syrups (think red grapefruit gin). They’re also considerate, recognising that handing you a tray of top-heavy cocktail glasses might not see you get safely up those narrow stairs to the rooftop area. Best let the experts handle that tricky balancing act while you kick back to take in the lo-fi surrounds.
