Harvey’s Hot Sandwiches
Harvey’s Hot Sandwiches has a singular mission: to bring back big, hot and tasty sandwiches. Accessible and affordable, it’s a nostalgic space that pays homage to classic American diners. And make no mistake – Harvey’s is all about comfort food, and serves sangas so stuffed, you may struggle with the last bite.
With around 17 sandwiches on the menu, the remit here is broad. For meat lovers, there are takes on the classic French Dip, Philly Cheesesteak and Turkey Club sandwiches. The Hot Falafel and Salad sanga – piled with a jumble of fresh vege and lashed with green goddess dressing – have the vegetarian crowd covered.
Customise your sandwich with extras such as pickles, bacon and avocado. Side sauces include a house hot sauce made with a fermented bird's eye and habanero chilli mash.
If you’ve got the stomach space, add a side of shoestring fries, potato salad or fiery Nashville fried chicken. On the sweets front, it’s house-made ice-cream served in sundaes, cookie sandwiches and floats.
Owner John Vissaritis – who’s also behind District Brasserie in the CBD – drew inspiration for Harvey’s from his grandfather, who owned a cafe on Park Street in the 1940s. Photos of it now hang proudly on the wall here.
