The on-again, off-again site beside the Crown and Anchor on Grenfell Street has once more taken on a new (again temporary) life. The Social Creative (Little Miss venues, Royal Croquet Club) has again acquired the lease. And this time the pub comes too.
Busy with projects all over the country, The Social Creative has teamed up with The Happy Motel’s Jordan Jeavons to revive the space now named Superfish.
“I want it to have more of a relaxed vibe; where you can come for a Bloody Mary and share some food with friends,” says Jeavons. “We’re not changing anything at the pub, but this back area will eventually become the beer garden for The Crown and Anchor, so I’m definitely wary of creating the right vibe,” he adds. Branding by former Happy Motel co-owner Carlo Jensen (Peculiar Familia) has given the space a fun, fresh and casual feel.

SUBSCRIBE NOWThe menu is inspired by food from Jeavons’s childhood, with drinks to match. “The first thing I did was buy a frozen-drink machine,” which will whip up Margaritas to pair with aguachile (lime and habanero) ceviche and bold churrasco platters. Because “if you can’t eat it raw, you’ve ‘gotta barbeque it.”
Sore heads will be able to remedy the night before with a weekend brunch menu that is currently in the works.
Take a minute to look up from the all-local wine list and you’ll notice some extra greenery from moonlighting gardener, Ollie Graham of Paradise Loft Records.
The adjacent indoor space – formerly the Dive Shop – is currently being renovated. The concept is still in development but will include a space for functions and big groups.
