“What is that?” I thought when I scrolled past this whopper of a sanga. “And how do I get it?!” Frank’s Deli is close by my house, and this luxe-looking thing was beckoning me up the hill. It’s also a very tasty way to get into the French feel of things this week.

"We love an original concept for our sandwiches," co-owner Ben Kelly tells Broadsheet. "And with the Paris Olympics coming up, we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate."

When the team launched the steak frites baguette, it sold out in record time. Taking it up a notch, they doubled the supply – and sold out again. The most they’ve made in a day? 70. "We think that’s the capacity for our little kitchen."

Here are all the details.

What: A steak frites baguette with sauce alla L’Entrecote.
How: A flank steak is portioned up with butter and rosemary, then vacuum sealed for sous-vide. The cut’s then flash-grilled and sliced to order. The juicy meat’s then layered onto a buttery toasted baguette before French fries (well-seasoned with salt and a fresh crack of pepper) are piled on top. The final touch? Sauce like that found at L’Entrecote in Paris, with anchovies, fresh herbs and plenty of butter.
