Queenslanders love a pair of bike shorts. In 2020, Queensland customers were the biggest buyers of Nimble Activewear’s bike shorts, says co-founder Vera Yan. “They share our love of the outdoors and an appreciation for stylish yet high-performing activewear,” she says. Which is why we’re happy to report the Australian brand has opened its first store in Brisbane. “Our Queensland community is fit, fun and fashion savvy, so we’re excited to create a space for them to engage with the brand in a meaningful way,” says Yan.
Nimble’s custom-engineered fabric is created using post-consumer plastic bottles, and the centrepiece of the new store is a “sustainability wall” to educate customers on the process. Each bottle is broken into flakes, melted into pellets and then spun into yarn used to make leggings, sports bras, bike shorts and more – all in pretty colours and feminine prints.
Post-consumer plastic also features in a shimmering window installation created for the store by Queensland artist Cezary Stulgis and producer Kirby Blake. Inspired by the beauty and lightness of butterflies, it’s titled Kaleidoscope and it represents the brand’s sustainability model and core mission, says Yan, “which is promoting movement as an act of self-care”.

SUBSCRIBE NOWEarlier this year, the brand celebrated a milestone moment when it reached its initial goal of saving over one million recycled plastic bottles. Yan says, “While we know this is only the start of our journey, we are working towards becoming a fully sustainable brand and never taking more than we can give back”.
Yan and co-founder Katia Santilli started Nimble in 2013 after the pair bonded over a shared love of fitness and fashion. The new Fortitude Valley boutique marks the fourth store for the label, which has shops in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as online.
