In the Gold Coast Hinterland, not far from Springbrook National Park, is a one-of-a-kind tiny home with a corrugated roof, a claw-foot bath and a woodfired hot tub by a freshwater creek.
It’s called Wee Tiny, designed and built by couple Fiona Gunn and Clancy Palmer, who’ve brought together things they love – antique furniture, French linen sheets, limited phone reception – and turned it into a home on wheels at their farm property.
They’ve used reclaimed materials, vintage fittings and windows to create a romantic cabin hideaway that’s available to hire for $350 to $400 per night (minimum two-night stay).

SUBSCRIBE NOWInside there’s a queen-size bed, shower (above the bath) and eco toilet. Outdoors, you’ll find a kitchen with an oven, stove-top kettle and an esky. Plus, it has a veranda (and a wood burner) where you can play board games and sip wine until the sun goes down.
It’s based in Austinville Valley on a farm with cows and bees, plus other wildlife from red-necked wallabies to kingfishers. There’s a private swimming hole at Mudgeeraba Creek, which the cabin overlooks, and there are bushwalks, waterfalls and towering trees in Springbrook National Park, around 30 minutes’ drive away.
To help make your stay a little more luxe, the owners have included eco-friendly bath products, organic teas and a bluetooth speaker (though remember to download all your podcasts and tunes before you arrive).
If you like a little more home comfort but enjoy the idea of going off-grid, there’s another new tiny home on a 17-acre property in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland that might be a better fit.
Kookaburra Cabin has Kondalilla National Park and the rural town of Palmwoods on its doorstep. It’s the first Queensland getaway from the short-stay company Tiny Away, which started in 2018 and now has 75 properties on its website.
It’s more like a compact house on wheels. It has solar power and compost toilet, like other tiny homes, but its decor is a little less rustic. Each house is designed in Singapore and built in Australia, featuring air-conditioning indoors and a guaranteed hot shower.
Tiny Away operates as a profit-sharing arrangement with landowners who earn a percentage of the rental revenue. Kookaburra Cabin is only a three-minute drive from the nearest train station and a 20-minute walk from town, where you’ll find a local pub that has a courtesy bus to pick you up and take you back to your accommodation. It’s set on a family property with a tennis court, pool and farm animals – including sheep and horses you can pat as you prep a campfire.
The queen-sized bed is on a mezzanine level above a fully kitted out indoor kitchenette. There’s the option to collect fresh eggs from the chickens outside and cook them on the campfire, or stay indoors and flick a switch to boil the kettle. It’s $199 per night and there’s no minimum stay requirement. You’re also 15 minutes from the beach; Mooloolaba, Maroochydore and Noosa are all nearby.
