Ambitious Melbourne restaurateur Chris Lucas is shooting for a 2021 trifecta. The “Lucas” in Lucas Restaurants – which include Chin Chin, Baby Pizza, Kong, Hawker Hall and Kisume – has shared details of a third new restaurant slated to open this year.
It comes with the confirmation that his highly anticipated 80 Collins behemoth Society – a collaboration with Martin Benn and Vicki Wild, the duo behind Sydney’s internationally regarded Sepia – will open on Thursday July 22. While the team’s two-level, charcoal-fired Japanese diner Yakimono is slated for a late 2021 opening.
The newly announced venue, Grill Americano, will be a restaurant and bar operating all day, every day at 101 Collins Street (which was designed by lauded local firm Denton Corker Marshall). You’ll enter from Flinders Lane at the laneway entrance to the 101 Collins tower. “I love the energy and architecture of my city, and I am excited to honour these great buildings with beautiful restaurants people can enjoy,” Lucas said in a statement

SIGN UPThe Italian-leaning Grill Americano will draw from the lavishness of Venetian architecture with a menu that relies on a woodfired grill and a Naples-imported wood oven. Expect handmade pasta and Bistecca alla Fiorentina – a flame-licked steak on the bone – one of Tuscan cuisine’s most popular dishes.
It will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week.
Grill Americano is slated to open at 101 Collins Street, Melbourne, in October.
