After the success of its flagship store in Richmond, Melbourne bagel joint Bissel B has expanded to Elsternwick.
Brother-sister duo Jess and Ryan Kurban found an ideal location on Glen Huntly Road to serve up their popular New York-inspired menu.
“With how busy Richmond was, we always knew we wanted to open a second store,” Jess says. “My dad and brother came out here to have a look … and we signed the lease almost straight away.”

SIGN UPPreviously home to Benjamins Patisserie, the Elsternwick shopfront was completely gutted and reimagined for the launch of the new bagelry. The classic Bissel B green can be seen throughout, with warm tones and natural light adding to the eat-in experience.
Brown leather seating wraps around the walls, with an open-plan kitchen putting the process front and centre. You can also perch on the sunny street-front benches outside.
Bagels are supplied by the nearby Savion Cakes & Bagels, with most of the menu named after parts of New York. The Lox & Schmear is a crowd favourite – stacked with house-made salmon gravlax and lashings of dill-and-caper cream cheese.
The Midtown is loaded with chive cream cheese, smashed avo, crispy onion and chilli oil; the Wall Street is a big handheld brekkie filled with a fried egg, sausage patty, hash brown and American cheese; and the Hudson is a BLT with garlic mayo. Less traditional bagels include the Meatball and a PB&J option. Also on the sweet front, expect chunky cookies by Carlton North’s Proof Bakehouse.
Bissel B is closed from Friday December 23 to Wednesday January 4.
