Prahran Market cheese stall Maker & Monger – the “Chapel of Cheese” as founder Anthony Femia calls it – is hosting its fifth annual Friends of Fromagez toastie collab series.

The event sees Femia team up with a different chef each weekend from Saturday August 31 to Sunday September 29, with 100 toasties available per day.

This year, he’s called on Jung Eun Chae of Chae, Chinese-ish author Rosheen Kaul, Shannon Martinez of Smith & Daughters, Mischa Tropp of Toddy Shop and Chayse and Blayne Bertoncello of O My to make “the perfect toastie”.

“I really think this year’s lineup is the strongest we’ve ever had. It’s a real reflection of some of the best culinary dining opportunities that separate us from the rest of the country”, Femia tells Broadsheet.

The toasties include Kaul’s tuna sambal toastie, Chae’s twist on a Vegemite and cheese made with doenjang (Korean fermented soybean paste), and Martinez’s vegan spin on a Mexican cob loaf dip (a layered dish typically served in a bread bowl).

In classic Femia style, the cheesemonger has gone all out with the promotion (last year, he made baseball cards of each of the chefs), with a cheesy trailer and even cheesier pics of the chef collaborators that rival Olympic gymnast Giorgia Villa’s parmesan shots. See the full schedule below, to make sure you don’t miss a single sandwich.
