Enter through an inconspicuous door, descend down a flight of stairs and you’ll find yourself in the decadent and quirky bar, Halford. It’s in the former safe room of the 1897 Titles Office.

The plush-carpeted room features steel bank-safe shutters; pink, midnight-blue and chartreuse velvet upholstery; bronze mirror tabletops; and golden swans in the bathrooms.

Adding to the eccentricity, lighting orchestrated by an expert from the State Theatre Centre of WA throws colours across the walls. Holding just 100 people, the vibe is intimate, lavish and playful.

To drink, the team drafted the smartest players in champagne, spirits, wine and beer, and fixed a taut, bang-on cocktail list. A chocolate Scotch shaken with raspberry gin and black-tea syrup proves the bar staff knows what it's doing.
