Petition Wine Merchant
Menu
Wine drinkers know Emma Farrelly. She's poured wine at some of Perth's favourite wine strongholds including Must and The Trustee. These days, she's preaching her love of the grape at State Buildings with Petition Wine Bar and Merchant, her pulpit of choice.
This slick enoteca is one of three Petition venues in the heritage-listed building and shares an entrance with Kitchen and Beer Corner. It’s more intimate than either of those spaces, lined floor to wall with rare, handcrafted wine. Although organic local wines receive top billing, there’s also an impressive selection of Mediterranean wines and champagne.
There’s an extensive by-the-glass and bottle menu, which is best matched with charcuterie and cheese. Highlights include the l’auffiné au Chablis from France, octopus from Fremantle and the duck-liver parfait. Just as well all the wines are food-friendly and intended to be drunk today – not ageing in a cellar.
If you’re in a hurry, buy a bottle to go. Or if you’re sticking around and want to sample something special, inquire what’s on the Coravin, a vacuum-sealed innovation that lets you sip by the glass, without uncorking the bottle. Genius.
