Temperatures may have been skirting close to 30 degrees Celsius all week but technically summer doesn’t kick off until December 1 – and this year, summer will start with a splash. Brisbane City Council’s newest initiative offers $2 entry to all 22 of its pools from December 1, 2023, to February 29, 2024.

For just a gold coin – or a quick tap – you can score entry to a council pool to enjoy water play, swim laps, attend a fitness class or just lounge by the pool.

This includes the Newmarket Olympic Swimming Pool with its eight-lane Olympic-length pool, kids slide, splash pad, wading pool and barbeques; Sandgate Aquatic Centre with its leisure pool and slides; and the colourful, heritage-listed Spring Hill Baths.

The initiative, which is a part of the council’s 2023–24 budget, drops the price for entry from the current $6.40 for adults, $4.70 for children between two and 14, and $5.30 for concessions, to a standard $2 across the board. (Kids under the age of two swim for free, as do carers accompanying people with disabilities.)
