In a statement posted to Instagram earlier today, Butler announced it has closed its doors, with Wednesday March 1 its final service.

“We have been so grateful for the relationships with our guests, suppliers and the exceptional hospitality community in Brisbane,” says the statement. “We’ve hosted a few amazing parties, drank an incredible amount of beautiful wine and crafted dishes that will remain in our memories. We very much hope they stay in yours too.”

For those who weren’t lucky enough to visit, Butler was a cosy timber-lined treat with the backing of serious industry heavyweights in the form of the Lune Croissanterie Team, food from a former Goma Restaurant chef de partie Jane Kim, and a wine list that focused on Australian and Queensland drops.

Speaking to Broadsheet, the bar’s general manager, Ryan Butler, puts the venue’s short lifespan down to a lack of foot traffic. Despite the closure, he remains confident about the Brisbane hospitality scene. “It's fantastic and it’s expanding … [We love] being a part of it through Lune and having Butler open amongst it,” he says.

The plan is to hang on to the Butler space in the hope that they might be able to use it again down the line, be it for one-off events or as part of Lune’s expansion.

“What’s next for us is just continuing to focus on the growth of Lune Croissanterie … We’re obviously set to move into Sydney for the first time this year,”says Butler. “For now, it’s all Lune all the time as well as our sister business Moon.”

Above all, the Butler team is thankful to the loyal patrons who stopped by for a wine over the bar’s brief tenure. “We’re just grateful for everyone that played their part in Butler. While it wasn’t here for a long time, it certainly felt like a good time. We had so much fun with it. And we sincerely hope that everyone that came in had fun too. We’re still incredibly proud of what we did here, even if it’s not going to carry on for now,” says Butler.

It’s been a sad week for Brisbane’s food scene with W Brisbane’s restaurant Three Blue Ducks Brisbane announcing that it would be closing in June.
