Kymberlee and Sarah Stone hated how big-city grocery shopping felt like a chore. So they opened their own store.
The move was a sidestep from the duo, who previously helmed cafes on both sides of the border. Fourteen years ago, they ran a food shop called Apples in neighbouring Salisbury and more recently they owned Flock, a cafe they lost in the 2022 Lismore floods, which they’d converted to sell produce and premade meals during lockdown.
When the former Tarragindi Fruit Barn space became available, it felt like fate for Kymberlee. This prime-location corner store was where her mum used to work back in the day.

Replacing lanes of lino and ceiling-scraping shelves with local products lovingly presented in a well-appointed atmosphere, Good Times Grocer offers the antithetical experience to the supermarket duopoly.
Expect artisan products like Byron Bay-made lacto-fermented hot sauce from Crack Fox, soaring sourdough from Riser Bread, sweet treats from Jocelyn’s Provisions, cream-of-the-crop dairy goods from Barambah, Byron Bay Crackers, Honest Eggs (“I think they have something like 30 chickens per AFL field. It’s great.”) and Meat At Billy’s cuts from the beloved Ashgrove butchery.
“All things green and leafy” come courtesy of Kymberlee’s parents’ farm on the Sunshine Coast – they are “very chuffed to be involved”. Her dad often takes closely cropped selfies of himself and the produce to feature on the store’s socials. As her dad’s selfie show, this is food with a face to it.
