For a lot of couples, the question of where they should eat is a sure-fire argument starter. Where should we go? I don’t mind. What do you feel like eating? I don’t know. Why are you like this?

Leaham Claydon and Jianne Jeoung – couple and co-owners of Snug, a cosy Coorparoo Korean cafe – have no such problems. When Broadsheet asks the couple to share their favourite spots to drink and dine around town, they agreed on most answers.

It’s a good sign for the couple who opened their first venue together in March and who met while working at Yoko and Greca respectively.

When they’re not running one of the city’s cutest cafes you’ll find Claydon and Jeoung sipping Japanese draught beer, grabbing gelato or scoring a post-midnight Thai feed.

What’s your go-to for a quick takeaway?
Jianne Jeoung and Leaham Claydon: Banh Mi Factory in Newstead. It’s well priced and good quality with super fast service. We tend to pick them and make the short drive to enjoy them on the grass by the river.

And for a drink and snacks?
JJ & LC: For wine and snacks, we’re headed to Snack Man. We love hiding away in their dark room and they have excellent pescatarian options.

What’s the best food close to where you live?
JJ & LC: Shushokuya Masa is a 15-minute walk from our place. Simple, homely Japanese cooking – like you’ve been fed by your parents. And for some reason, their draught beer is on another level – hits the spot like nowhere else.

Where do you go for a special occasion?
JJ & LC: Bar Francine in West End is our place to celebrate anything as big as an anniversary or as small as finishing another week of work. Great wine list with a well-balanced menu. The most pesco-friendly place in Brisbane.

And where’s the best coffee in town?
JJ & LC: Sunroom in Newstead. The coffee is always exactly how we like it and the team there is the most consistently friendly bunch you’ve ever met. Plenty of natural light. It’s the perfect way to start your day off.

How about a meal with a big group of family or friends?
JJ & LC: Manok Park in Underwood is our go-to place for a family catch up. A rare Korean eatery serving clean-eating food with rotational banchan. It’s a bit of a drive but always worth it.

Who do you reckon does the best desserts?
JJ & LC: Mountain River Patisserie in Runcorn. Technically flawless desserts with the most inspiring couple at the helm.

What’s your favourite dish on the menu at Snug?
Jianne Jeoung: Omurice with prawn and lemon tsuyu. It’s slightly based on what my mum used to make when I was growing up, so it’s always a comforting lunch for me.

Leaham Claydon: Soup of the day and pretzel for me. Soup is so underrated and Jianne always nails it. We had one with Jerusalem artichoke, caramelised onion and doenjang – out of control.

And is there a hidden gem you think is underrated?
JJ & LC: Ripiena in Fortitude Valley is consistently great even though we don’t make it there often enough. The kitchen team makes hand-rolling pasta look effortless and their dishes are always really well layered with flavour.

What’s your go-to hangover feed?
JJ: The spicy vegan ramen at Taro’s always resets me. Koreans always look to soothe their tummy with hot broth.

LC: I would always be chasing a sandwich and a strong coffee, so I’d make my way towards Anytime in the city. Its morty roll would fix the problem.

Where’s your favourite spot to grab gelato?
JJ & LC: La Macelleria in Tenneriffe or West End, hands down. Stracciatella and ricotta with figs are our standouts.

Where would you take someone you’re looking to impress?
JJ: I’d make the drive down to the Gold Coast and go to Rick Shores. Great place to sit and spend quality time with your people no matter the weather.

LC: It’s Exhibition in the city for me. So much detail in every aspect of their service.

What’s your favourite spot for a late-night feed?
JJ & LC: Charoen Krung on Brunswick Street flies under the radar but is such a great meal. Big selection of Thai dishes and open till 4am on weekends. Panang curry and the Isan sausages are always on our order.
