Since it opened in May 2021, Redfern’s Good Ways Deli has knocked our socks off with outstanding sandwiches on house-made wattleseed bread packed with fillings like kangaroo mortadella and Maffra cheddar, and its knack for nailing nostalgic baked treats like lamingtons and vanilla slices. Now, Good Ways Deli number two is incoming. It’s due to open in a former corner store in Alexandria in November.

“The plan was always to open a couple of shops,” co-owner and chef Jordan McKenzie (ex- Orana Sydney, Cho Cho San) tells Broadsheet.

“And then we found a location which we liked and thought we would do well in [that] area,” continues Tom Pye, Good Ways’ other owner (ex-Coffee Supreme). “And it brings something to the area that it doesn’t have yet – similar to Redfern.”

The exact location of Good Ways Deli Alexandria remains a secret for now. The duo plans on leading fans on a treasure hunt, with flyers teasing the new address, and “golden tickets” punters can rip off for free sandwiches.

The space itself will be smaller than Redfern, and the majority of baking will continue to happen at the original venue. Otherwise, the concept will be similar to Redfern’s: a sandwich counter, coffee machine, and fridges and shelves stocked with pantry goods and preserves. There’ll also be limited indoor seating, and the plan is to eventually offer outdoor seating. While the range at Alexandria will be similar to what’s found at Redfern, they’ll launch a couple of new items specifically for the new store.

Good Ways Deli Alexandria is set to open in November.
